Primrose in the snow

Primrose in the snow

In March 2005 we found a valley of primroses all nestled in light snow...

We were blessed to make an Essence there, and sat writing our notes whilst the Essence was infusing. It was a heart opening experience to sit in nature for a spell after the winter, sensing spring in the air, and feeling the desire to start being outside more. The Primrose is such a brave plant, often beginning flowering as winter commences, and continuing during the mild spells throughout the winter as well as giving long spring flowering. Primrose inspires us to begin again after the winter, luring us outside, from our pale, wintry, indoor existence. Although the ground was completely frozen, we did not feel the cold as we sat there, warmed by the courage and charm of Primrose in the snow.

In February this year I revisited the valley, nervous at reports of ‘clearing’. True, the bracken and brambles had all been removed (soon to reappear I think!) but through the ground pushed the Primroses, thick with buds and beginning to flower, with tracks of roe deer imprinted all around.
